Terms

Moondonut is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It is a tool for editing your own files, and you use it at your own risk.

You own your files. Moondonut edits ordinary Markdown files on your own disk. It claims no rights over anything you write, and the files it produces are plain .md that any other tool can read — that is the whole point of the format.

Please don't redistribute the app. The source is private and the built app is not yours to republish, resell or bundle. Linking to it is welcome.

Licence keys are per person, for the desktop app when it arrives. One person, as many of their own machines as they like.

While Moondonut is in preview it is free. 1.0 will be paid, and everyone who downloads Moondonut before 1.0 gets a free 1.x licence. The deal you get now is the deal you keep: it will not be changed retroactively, and no update will install something that then asks you for money.

Privacy

The app collects nothing. Moondonut is local-first: your files never leave your machine, and there are no accounts, no telemetry, no analytics and no crash reporting. The hosted version is served by Cloudflare Pages, whose servers keep standard request logs (IP address, user agent) in order to deliver the page — we do not receive or keep them.

One request the app does make. The desktop app checks for updates shortly after it launches, which tells GitHub an IP address and a version number, exactly as any download does. It is the same information a browser gives every site it visits, and nothing about your files is part of it — but it is a request leaving your machine, so it is named here rather than left out.
